Ngā Manga Atawhai, the trees and powerlines, rivers, and roads project that came out of the Cyclone Gabrielle Regional Recovery Plan has been featured on 7Sharp.
The largest project to have come out of our Recovery, Ngā Manga Atawhai is designed to be self-sustaining, and have long-term flood mitigation and employment outcomes. It’s also the single-biggest thing we can do to ensure electricity supply in future severe weather events.
For those who haven’t heard about this project before, it brings together all Northland Councils, the power companies, roads providers, Te Roroa, MSD, MBIE, the Northland Adverse Events Team (Rural Support Trust, MPI, CDEM, and rural peak bodies), Te Whatu Ora, and Te Kahu O Taonui.
